Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC boosters charge the on-board or secondary battery quickly and reliably from the engine alternator when the engine alternator is running. It is compatible with smart alternators, which are controlled by Engine Control Units (ECU) to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. It has a built-in engine run sensing mechanism and prevents the starter battery from discharging when the alternator is not supplying power.
What is the difference between Victron Orion-Tr Smartb insulated or non-insulated? The answer depends on whether or not the starter and service batteries share a common ground. If the starter battery and the service battery share a common negative (example: if everything is grounded to the chassis), then the non-isolated version of the Orion-Tr Smart is appropriate.
A distinctive feature of the Orion-Tr Smart charger is its ability to separate the starter battery from the service battery when the engine is switched off, providing extensive electronic protection and three-stage adaptive charging algorithms (Bulk, Absorption, Float) to maximise battery life.
The charger is configured and monitored via the VictronConnect bluetooth app, giving users the ability to customise charging settings and access real-time status information. In addition, the charger features an overheat protection system and is protected against overloads and short circuits.
Technical specifications emphasise the charger's flexibility, with an input voltage range of 10-17V (for 12V models), a continuous output power of 360W (at 40C) and high efficiency. The charger withstands a continuous output current of up to 30 A (at rated voltage and 40C) and can supply a maximum output current of up to 40 A (for 10 seconds) at rated output voltage.
